Despite being acknowledged owners of the land, local communities encounter numerous restrictions that hinder their ability to engage in traditional mining activities. These Afro-descendant communities, who have inhabited the region since before the Republic of Colombia was established and have relied on mining since the early 15th century, continue to strive for sustainable development in the face of ongoing difficulties.
